Mu Pan

1001noon
Mu Pan, I would love to buy you a beer.   Your work is like the sweet smell of honey dew in the morning on a blood-soaked mountain.  If you were a carrot, I'd never eat you. Watercolors below. More later.

MONICA COOK: WORKS ON PAPER

by

January 19, 2012

RavishedandRavaged1
2010 Top 100 artist Monica Cook paints so awesome but she does everything else awesome as well.  Here are some of her works on paper, which seem to show much more of the satire in her work.

Happy New Year, peoples.  It's been a long time.  I'm a bad bunny, but I'm back...   Meet photographer Hal.  He makes me giggle. I think he's quite romantic in a way.

王建揚 CHIEN-YANG WANG

CHIEN-YANG WANG 001
You know how once in a while you come across an artist that you're fairly sure does not do drugs... which can only lead you to speculate that their momma must've dipped their breastmilk in the electric kool-aid?  Yea. Meet Chien-Yang Wang.  What I like about his work is that it seems to be utterly devoid of cynicism or Irony.  It just looks like everyone is having a damn good time.

3D Hollywood

Stefan Da Costa Gomez humphrey
Stefan Da Costa Gomez combines the traditional medium of painting with 3D technology and must be viewed with 3D glasses to enjoy.  Since I don't have any, (and they wouldn't fit my bunny head anyways) -I just banged my head against my cage until the paintings started to work without glasses.  This method of viewing is not recommended for children.

THE GRUNGE AGE

by

September 26, 2011

Pearl Jam
Flavorwire has a post on ten cool posters from the Grunge era.  I'm digging them, it's nice to see their lo-fi approach still looks cool.  Except for the Lollapalooza poster, which I'm not including below.  I miss my Nirvana shirt.

NO COUNTRY FOR SMALL MEN

florian tremp what a mess
Florian Tremp is a 29 years old self-taught photographer based in Switzerland who creates and photographs miniature sets carefully created by hand.  All dioramas are homemade - mostly with model railroad supplies. How cool.   I handmade made a little box once that was wood and gold and you could hear any kind of music you wanted.  Or was that in a dream?

Kristian Schuller has been referred to as an icon in style and fashion.  After looking through the work... I'll say yes. He also has a new ebook out on itunes, and I'm definitely getting one... -as soon as my handlers at EK let me out my cake.  -I mean cage.  Raahhrrrr.

CHAOS CINEMA: EK INTERVIEW

by

September 19, 2011

chaoscinemamasthead
CHAOS CINEMA is a well thought out video essay by Matthias Stork, administered by Indiewire's journalistic blog PRESS PLAY.  I would like to say that I saw Drive, and it is the antithesis to chaos cinema. I think, but what do I know, I'm just a cake-loving bunny.

OH YEAH OH YEAH (part 2)

by

September 15, 2011

oh yeah Jarle
Previously featured by Konahrtist, Oh Yeah studios got the right ideas going.   They also have a nice selection of prints available. What I like about their work is that it always works for their client while retaining their distinct sense of style.

NEW CINEMA CLASSICS: THIS IS ENGLAND

by

September 13, 2011

Shane Meadows is the man.  He has been one of my favorite UK directors since discovering him via Dead Man's Shoes. This is England is a take on the coming-of-age story featuring misguided skinheads that only Meadows could have got right.

Michelangelo Di Battista: CELEBRITIES

by

September 11, 2011

michelangelo di battista masthead
Something about our culture that makes celebrity feel like a dirty word to me these days.  It seems like anyone can be a celebrity now. However, Mr. Di Battista's eye and technical skill cannot be denied.   I'm guessing he's too expensive to hire for my wedding?  I got lots of bunny dough, dude! ...okay it's just a bunch of carrots.  sigh.

Kent Williams, what does it feel like to be so awesome?   If your talent was a gun, I'd be little more than bone fragments and spaghetti against the wall right now.  Follow him here, his new book is out!

MARS-1

mars 1 Afterglow_sm_905
There are certain artists, like Mars-1 that I come across that make me seriously wonder if I'd ever fully give up psychedelic drugs.  I mean seriously, when I'm rollin' in bunny dough, I'm going to own a huge piece like these... and then you're telling me I'm going to sit in front of it contemplating the universe for days sober?  Ha.
