EK Shop: James Rawson

by

February 29, 2016

James_Rawson2_1024x1024
James Rawson -James’ work blurs the boundaries between collage and painting, using preparatory paper collages as reference for his larger paintings. He aims to reflect the multi-layered visual experience we all live in. Appropriating the very images that have become implicit in our society, James’ work disturbs our sense of reality and confuses our perception of popular culture.

EK Shop: Christine Wu

by

February 8, 2016

Christine Wu Portrait
Christine Wu is a fine art oil painter and overall image maker. Stylistically, her work is multi-layered with haunting and sensual undertones. She often depicts people in flux, capturing the vulnerability of self discovery while exploring the tangibility of memories and the way we remember. She is also an information collector, obsessive organizer and springtime murderer.

Donate to EMPTY KINGDOM

Most of our faithful fans know that we here at EK do what we do simply for the love of Art. And if you don't know, now you know. We originally started our site to share our love of Art with the world, but it grew quickly from a fun side project to an intense, all-consuming labor of love, and now, we have been blessed with this beautiful baby whose life it is our job to nurture and grow in a positive, impactful way. Our dream is to be a 90/10 company, meaning we donate 90% of our company's net income and keep only 10%. Take a moment to think about how retardedly difficult that sounds. There isn't a businessman in the world who'd invest in a business plan like that.

EMPTY KINGDOM TOP 100 Artists of 2013

by

January 31, 2014

TOP 100 2013
[Photo by: Shelbie Dimond] 939 is the magic number for EK in 2013. 939 only has 4 factors: 1, 3, 313, 939...which doesn't really have any significant meaning relating to our TOP 100. AMD made a CPU called the Socket 939 back in June 2004...but we're not sponsored by them nor any other computer tech company to supply us with the machines that we need to run EK. The year 939 in Roman numerals is CMXXXIX...which doesn't mean crap since none of us use Roman numerals anymore. According to HistoryOrb.com, 4 major events took place in year 939 that were documented: July 8th (The Major Occultation, or Ghaybat el-Kubra of Muhammad al-Mahdi), August 6th (Battle at Simancas - Spain beats Moors), October 2nd (Battle at Andernach: King Otto & Hermann of Zwaben beat Eberhard of France & Giselbert of Lutherans), October 27th (Edmund I succeeds Athelstan as King of England)...which all has nothing to do with EK. Nonetheless, 939 is the exact number of posts we had to sift through for 2013 in order to bring to all of you art-fiends our fourth annual EMPTY KINGDOM TOP 100 Artists of 2013!

[Photo by: Lauren Treece] The beginning is, in fact, finally here. 2013: THE BEGINNING IS NEAR

by

January 3, 2013

ek_tbin

2012 was an unpredictable, fast, scary, wild, and beautiful year in many ways. While the media want to talk about the Mayans and debate the end of the world, to tell you the truth none of that matters. Because every day is somebody's last day on earth. Every day people lose loved ones who mean the world to them. While we would love nothing more to speak only of the beautiful wonderful possibilities of the new year, 2012 was sobering in many respects and it would not be honest to ignore some of the incredible human tragedies of the year.
