Alyssa Monks' ability to interpret impressive realism using minimum detail, makes her an exceptional artist. It's no wonder she's had two features on EK on March 2010 and May 2012 and an interview on June 2011. Not only that, she has been a part of our Empty Kingdom's Top 100 lists of 2010 and 2012 respectively. Here is a combination of her latest work as well as a look at her earlier stuff.

His ability to capture the beauty of anatomical figures and scientific complexities result in an imaginative juxtaposition of the surreal and hyper-real.

art blog - Heidi Taillefer - empty kingdom
Heidi Taillefer's work is a painstakingly detailed homage of how the human spirit predominates despite technological advances of our time, by blending mechanical and mythological elements in her paintings. We had a chance to interview this talented Canadian artist on January 2012 after having been featured twice before on EK, on February 2010 and on February 2011... I'm pretty sure we all got a big crush on her by now.

Markus Manowski is a multifaceted artist from Zabrze, Poland. His work is a somber juxtaposition of abstract shadows and colors with pictorial elements of found photographs and images from his own archive of pictures and drawings. This combination allows for a progression from one piece to the next, creating dialogue between the artist and his medium; The transition mirrors a radical shift in the social environment in his past, documenting a journey from a communist regime to West Germany. Also known as Daze Maxim, Manowski is not only well versed in visual mediums but is also a well established musical artist with a substantial body of work as a musician, producer and performer in the field of electronic music.

The only thing I love more than hyperrealism is when the artist uses his superpower to make the impossible possible. Such is the case with Joel Rea's paintings. Dispite the menacing circumstances, I can't help but wish I could live in Rea's world where the rules of physics are set aside for the sake of beauty.
