Most of our faithful fans know that we here at EK do what we do simply for the love of Art. And if you don't know, now you know. We originally started our site to share our love of Art with the world, but it grew quickly from a fun side project to an intense, all-consuming labor of love, and now, we have been blessed with this beautiful baby whose life it is our job to nurture and grow in a positive, impactful way. Our dream is to be a 90/10 company, meaning we donate 90% of our company's net income and keep only 10%. Take a moment to think about how retardedly difficult that sounds. There isn't a businessman in the world who'd invest in a business plan like that.

Empty Kingdom & the Hope Campaign are proud to announce our official partnership in support of ReCREATE: ATX, a fundraiser and all-day art event at SXSW!  The Hope Outdoor Gallery is one of the nation's largest outdoor art galleries, a place for local artists to share their work, focused on positive and educational messages.  What began with Shepard Fairey's mammoth Obey record album poster series has flourished into one of the most beautiful destinations in Austin.    But to be ready for the public, the walls need your help first!

Tucked away in a sideswept Parisian street, the Russian Tearoom Gallery is a fascinating space, created by Liza Fetissova to showcase the work of Russian photographers. Lush yet striking, RTR is a cleverly constructed gallery that whispers of an intimacy often lost in the barren whiteness of modern galleries. Read on for more about their vision!

It's going to be more fun than a barrel of monkeys and more interesting than the Dos XX man, (well maybe not, considering he has his own wikipage and EK doesn't yet.)

Today opens the Dale Grimshaw show at Signal Gallery named 'Moreish' which in his own words is 'a case of enough is never enough. The ‘haves’ want more and the ‘have nots’ can pay for it. The v1 Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in the centre of Copenhagen, which has spent the last decade been giving the established art scene a good shaking. One of the first to bring street art to the spotlight in Scandinavia, it's always holding something new, and never quite what you expect - Jesper Elg talks with us about v1's approach to their artists and their philosophy.

Hold Up Art Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in the heart of downtown Los Angeles , 2 blocks South of The Geffen Contemporary MOCA. 358 E. 2nd St. open tuesday- sunday  On September 8th they are hosting a show by the name of Epilogue by Hugh Leeman, Eddie Colla and Dave Young.

Hugh Leeman, Dave Young and Eddie Colla are three fantastic street artists.  They are having a show in LA at the Hold Up Art Gallery called Epilogue.  "Epilogue” is a fully immersive art installation taking over the entirety of Hold Up Art Gallery in downtown Los Angeles.  The Bay Area’s most prolific vandals, David Young, Eddie Colla, and Hugh Leeman present a vision of our world, after it’s inevitable collapse. An existence stripped of mass media, conspicuous consumption and the trappings of a modern global society. A future reduced to the tasks of survival and memory. This ambitious installation will feature new works created from found objects and home made weapons. “Epilogue” opens Saturday, September 8th at 7p.m.

With a strong emphasis on experimental, investigative art, the work they display ranges from the the conceptual to the electrifying, and in the case of performance artist Antti Laitinen, gloriously, wholeheartedly mad. Here's what I know about Mike Shankman.  He's a hard working dude.  He is patient.  He's talented.  He loves painting deeply.  I'm not sure if there's anything else I need to know.  Oh, and I do also know his paintings are a real treat in person!  He is currently solo-showing at the prolific 111minna gallery, so check it out if you're in the area!  You won't be disappointed.

So it's pretty clear that we at EK like our art sharp, raw and pointy - so when we saw that one of our absolute favorites, Joseph Loughborough, is opening a solo show in London's wickedly atmospheric Old Vic Tunnels, well we more or less melted for several hours before we could peel ourselves off the floor to feature him -

John Wentz is a teacher at the Academy of Art in San Francisco with a perspective that all teachers would do well to adopt.  As an artist he pushes the envelope, challenging the manner in which we, as a culture, view heroes, the idea of archetypes and the effect on future generations of depriving them adequate heroes and stories.  His interview blew my mind.  Read it.

The first amazing gallery spotlight we're shining is on 111 Minna Gallery, a San Francisco institution that has been around since 1993, specifically known for its focus on underground, low brow, edgy and often controversial art. Micah LeBrun, the curator of this laid back gallery, speaks with us about their selection process and the interplay between art as art, art as business, and the internet.
