Simon Beck

by

March 22, 2016

Simon Beck1
Simon Beck spontaneously drew a star on a frozen lake after a day of skiing back in December 2004. His sense for orientation in combination with his passion for the outdoors inspired him to complete the snow creation. Afterwards, he looked down from a ski lift and was impressed by the result. The next snowfall, he repeated the exercise by creating an even more complex drawing. Snow Art was born.

His range is immense, discussing everything from the future of our society and world in his ethereal and haunting abandoned cities, to the lost innocence we seem to have forgotten, to the darkness of the world and the futility of our attempts to drive that darkness away. EK Interview: Ben Thomas

by

February 12, 2016

EK_BT_MH
The photography of Ben Thomas makes our world look like a model set. In the most extreme, this can be an exercise in humility, forcing one to consider how infinitesimal we are as human beings, and how tiny our race is in the scope of our planet, and in the greater context of the universe. On another end they provide a window into the beauty and achievement of our species, the monuments we have constructed to ourselves and the world we have wrought together. Check out his interview:

Headland Of Dreams

by

September 22, 2015

Julien Mauve
"This project is based on a text called "Promontorium Somnii" written by Victor Hugo in 1863 and dealing with the continuum between real and dream. Hugo talks about our need to find something within ourselves than can help us sail through the remains of dreams and the will-of-the-wisps of illusion. He claims that "sleep is not a formal necessity for dreams". I tried to explore this nocturnal world with photographs, find a dream-state presence in the waking life and reveal this world that does not exist and yet which does." -Julien Mauve, Paris, France

‘Realm’ by Carolyn Lefley

by

October 20, 2014

Carolyn Lefley - Empty Kingdom - Art Blog
"I am interested in the relationship between literary fiction and fantasy stories and the inherent make-believe qualities of a photograph. Photographs are windows to another world and as such have a magical quality to them. In my new work Realm I have created digitally altered photographs, where the familiar place of the home becomes a portal into mythical realm." -Carolyn Lefley, Photographer, London
