art blog - Anton Kusters - empty kingdom

Photographer Anton Kusters obviously must have some huge cojones to pursue this two-year project. Kusters is based out of both Brussels, Belgium and Tokyo, Japan, and simply put, he is the shit. Kusters spent two years documenting the Yakuza, the most infamous of Japanese mafia, and was given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to journey through the crime underworld controlled by the Yakuza.

“893-Yakuza is a personal visual account of the life inside an inaccessible subculture: a traditional Japanese crime family that controls the streets of Kabukicho, in the heart of Tokyo, Japan.”
