As a sculptor and painter, I must say that Brad Kunkle’s (previously featured back in February 2012) beautiful work flutters along the lines of sculpture. I have not seen these paintings in person, but I bet the experience is one-of-a-kind. The surface of these oil paintings are embellished with gold and silver leaf, and thus, affected areas will shift from lighting in the space as viewers walks across the room.
As most 3D sculptures go, they are innately ever-changing in each perspective and interactive with the audience. Even for interactive paintings, Kunkle’s advanced pieces are so strong that they can still mesmerize the viewer through its image alone. For these paintings to be able to have these qualities while remaining in its 2D dimensions, Kunkle has shown (whether it was intended or not) that he has personal intentions with creating audience interaction.
