Cédric De Smedt created an animation for Max Cooper‘s (ft. BRAIDS) new music video for his single, “Pleasures [FIELDS]“. Interesting enough, Max Cooper’s music videos has been featured twice before back in May 2012 and October 2011 for the captivating use of visual animation.
“When I started to work on this project, Max Cooper only gave me a few directions to follow, I was given a free hand. Of course, I had to stick to the title of the track ‘Pleasures’. It should be something beautiful and pleasant. While following this direction, it made sense for me to work on a mysterious and disconcerting world, since it’s the kind of atmosphere I tend to approach as an illustrator. Every element of the clip is handmade, scanned, then animated with a video editing software. The video arrives at its meaning over the seconds, it is something that decodes, a story that builds and becomes coherent. Max Cooper’s productions already seemed suitable for the universe of my drawings before we started collaborating. “Pleasures”, as I heard it for the very first time, sounded perfect for the realisation of this video.
Being passionated about biology is something I have in common with a former genetics researcher like Max Cooper. His perception of human condition (a recurrent element in my works) encounters mine and from that ensues the clip. This video is a meeting between two artistic visions, an audiovisual project where human being becomes a very important part, the third actor of this encounter.”
