The work of John Grade is dynamic and ever-changing; interested in natural material, form, decay and the passing of time, Grade creates sculptures both indoors and outdoors. He works in all scales, but his most astounding works are site - specific large sculptures, that often travel to canyons, mountains, glaciers and bodies of water to take on completely new meaning and form. Elephant Bed, for example is made of "17 forms, each 6 feet wide by 24 feet high and fabricated with dissolving paper and corn-based polymer. The forms above the pool of ink were gradually lowered, disintegrating, during the run of the exhibition. The remaining nine forms were carried out of the space through the city lanes and into the English Channel."
