INTERVIEW WITH DIEGO DIAZ
Tell us a little about yourself
I am from a town called Torre del Mar in Malaga (Spain) I am 22 years old, I was student of Technical Architecture when I have decided to leave my studies for go to Italy to try to be a Fashion Photographer. Fashion photography has been my passion since I was a child.
How did you get into photography?
A few years ago I have started to make photos to my friends and family, always like a joke. But a year ago I felt the need to make what a I want and became a fashion photographer, and then an Italian fashion brand saw my profile on flickr and I started to make the campaigns of the fashion brand Schiled Collection.
How would you describe your style?
I consider my style a mix between the irony and glamour, always with colour and light…I am very obsessed with the colour.
What inspires your art?
What most inspires me is the light of my town Torre del Mar, all that represents my childhood. Now that I am out from Spain is that most inspires me.
How has being self-taught affected your photography?
On the one hand is very good because I have created my own style and it really likes me. But on the other hand when I have tried to take photography lessons I could not tolerate what they were trying to teach me. I prefer to learn myself, when I meet some picture that drive me crazy I look for everything about that and I try to do something like this pictures and apply it to my style.
What sites do you visit for cool art?
I like Homotography and Marie Claire Italia
What gear are you using?
I have a Canon Camera EOS 1000D, Is not very professional but I like it.
What software do you like to finish with?
I always work with Photoshop.
When you are doing a photoshoot, what do you focus on first?
The fist thing that I look for are the Locations, and the postures of the models
How do you see your work developing in the future?
In the future I would like to shoot for the big magazines around the world, looking for original locations and different characters.
What kind of direction do you give to your models?
The first thing that I explain is the character and then let them do whatever they want inside this character.
Where’s your favorite place to eat in Italy? (In case I go there)
hahahah….In Italy wherever you go! The Italian food it’s amazing….the pizzas with gorgonzzola cheese drive me crazy! -Particularly I like to go to a small Restaurant in Florence called San Giacoppino for pizza and a Bar in Milan called Il panino Giusto, where you can eat the best Italian sandwiches in the world! heheehe…
Diego was kind enough to share some personal photos of his. Some are of his sister and mother, both very beautiful women.
