Artist Jenny Saville is a deep, beloved favorite of mine who was featured back in August 2010, which landed her on our EK TOP 100 of 2010. Saville depicts flesh to the extremes ranging from the beautiful to the grotesque, as well as addressing body politics in her female nudes.

Body politics? I can’t help but think that that’s about all that I am getting out of these paintings. Just like WWII posters that proclaimed that “When you ride alone you ride with Hitler” it seems to be about as deep as the message in these paintings goes. Ok, I get it. But paintings should be more than posters for provocative ideas. Or to better put it: Provocative ideas are less than paintings.
