Art dating from the Neoclassical Period, and predating the 18th century especially, artists were, in more words or less, educators to the public. Paintings were used as form of a teaching tool depicting and explaining classical myths, moral teachings, and other historical events. Art with a purpose, right? With substance?
Fran Recacha, an artist based out of Barcelona, Spain, takes on classical myths in a contemporary fashion. Obviously, if you’re not familiar with classical Greek mythology, then Recacha’s paintings are nothing more than half naked people sprawled out with weird animal parts attached to them.
Recacha’s work spans in private international collections from Spain, United Kingdom, France, USA, Chile, Venezuela, and Andorra.
