art blog - Gottfried Helnwein - empty kingdom

Austrian-Irish artist Gottfried Helnwein is by far one of our favorite artists here in the EK office, especially for Bunnyman. Helnwein was featured before on our site before our infamous server crash of 2009, and we want to bring him back for his 2010 body of work.

Helnwein uses both oil and acrylic on canvas to create these amazing hyper-realistic paintings. In his body of work, Helnwein consistently revisits themes regarding children, focusing on provocative and controversial matters of cruelty, violence, and sexualization.

“When I see how kids grow up, how they are neglected and mistreated, how they get polluted with drugs, junk food, insane television and bad schools, it’s terrible—and dangerous, because they are our future. Children are sacred—we need to protect, support and encourage them.”
