"Man has always used natural elements for decorative purposes, often exploiting and modifying the nature to his own taste, with the only intent of owning the beauty. I have always admired with wonder and respect the nature, I believe that it is the greatest expression of beauty, that kind of beauty that satisfies the senses, that kind of beauty that only art can approach. That’s the reason why in my work I take inspiration from natural forms, repurposing them through a decorative key that preserves the elegance and poetry. A contemporary “Cabinet of Curiosity” where nature is respected not defaced, reproducing the essence by fragile and transparent shapes." -Simone Crestani, Venice, Italy
"The Abyss Table" designed by Duffy London is a conversation piece as much as a functional one. But while previous works play with gravity, this new design is concerned with depth, and creates a geological cross-section as mesmerizing as the sea. The design team spent a year developing the table in their London studio, experimenting with sculpted glass, Perspex and wood, arranged like a 3-D representation of a geological map, until they re-created something of the mesmeric abyss that had first captured Duffy’s imagination.
Art is a personal composition of the reality that surrounds us and artist/scientist Casey Cripe's work takes that concept to a crazy intricate level. Each piece is a map of the exploration of life, self and the universe. His ability to capture the beauty of anatomical figures and scientific complexities result in an imaginative juxtaposition of the surreal and hyper-real.
