No, there is nothing wrong with your screen. No, you’re not viewing a screen shot of a scrambled adult pornography channel (not that I would know what something like that would look like). These are oil paintings, and no, they’re not unfinished works. Jens Hesse is an artist hailing from Heessen, Germany, but is currently based out of Antwerp, Belgium. Hesse creates oil paintings on corduroy and traditional canvases of digital images that have visual distortions from digital satellite signals, datamoshed videos, and interlace effects.
Hesse’s work reminded me of Enda O’Donoghue (December 2010) who also depicts digital images, however taken from webcams and consumer digital cameras.
