There are no mere coincidences in life. The universe is just way too expansive for two things to simply coincide with each other (no matter how small or big a coincidence it may be) for people to quietly it brush off. That’s why when I came across Kevin Appel’s mixed media pieces of owls, of all animals, I had to share. What’s so special about owls? I hate to be so cryptic, but let’s just say that some of us at EK had a very “spiritual” overnight encounter with this culturally and traditionally symbolic animal in the California/Nevada desert near the Death Valley a couple of weeks ago trapped inside a rental car, and our respect for the natural world and the way of the universe has grown fonder.
I love it when the universe and art smashes together like a rouge asteroid hurling blindly through space on a crash-course towards a small blue-green marble planet.
Currently based out of Los Angeles, California, USA, Appel’s mixed media pieces consists of screen prints, enamel, acrylic, and other inks.
