LA- based Kim Kei is a hybrid artist, straddling the worlds of photography, painting, and sculpture.
She takes various materials from the natural world (think steel, fabric, metal, string), and creates organic, morphing, irridescent sculptures. They appear like some warped, dreamy aftermath of a high speed collision, with silky hues of pale pinks, silvery blues and veiny greens. These works are then photographed and painted. The canvases are equally, if not more, otherworldly, abstract yet highly organic, laden with Turner-esque strokes that capture the essence of the sculptures but create something entirely new and whole.
