Lise Sarfati is a French photographer who, after spending a decade in the crumbling Soviet Union, turned her lens to rural Americana. She avoids imposing any sort of narrative, but shoots from the periphery, capturing a sort of visual drama – highly emotive and almost alien dissonance between her subject and their background. An exquisite strangeness.
