Mark Hogancamp lost most of his memory after being attacked and receiving serious head trauma. With no recollection of his life, he began to create his own world through a simple digital camera.

Marwencol is a fictional, Nazi-oppressed town that takes place in the World War II era. Hogancamp uses elaborate 1/6-scale model sets to tell his story using characters based of off actual people in his life. MARWENCOL is a documentary following Hogancamp’s story, and the world that he creates through scale models, a digital camera, and his imagination to substitute for his past that is no longer there.

Since its premiere, MARWENCOL has received many awards, such as The Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary from South by Southwest Film Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, as well as other special jury awards from IFFBoston, Hot Docs (HBO Emerging Artist Award), Comin-Con, and Vienna International Film Festival.
