art blog - Philip Barlow - empty kingdom

Philip Barlow originally hails from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, but currently is now based out of Cape Town. Focusing on the effects of lights on different surfaces and settings, Barlow creates fascinating “blurred” oil on canvas paintings where he hints at environmental forms and shapes in his work. Not giving much visual information, Barlow’s pieces allow the viewer an avenue to create their own stories and meanings.
