Armed with a very sharp X-ACTO knife, artist Alex Queral carves sculptural relief portraits of individuals directly into the pages of ordinary phone books. Queral preserves his works by applying transparent acrylic paint onto the phone book pieces.

“In carving and painting a head from a phone-book directory, I’m celebrating the individual lost in the anonymous list of thousands of names that describe the size of the community.”
