art blog - Andreas Englund - empty kingdom

Andreas Englund originally hails from Falun, Sweden, but is currently based out of Stockholm. Englund creates an absolutely hilarious series of oil on canvas paintings of a beloved superhero on the wrong side of 40 just trying to get by in his twilight years. We’ll all see to that day ourselves at one point in our lives. None of us live forever. Who wants too?

“Humour can be the carrier of messages that are otherwise hard to convey. For me, it liberates my thoughts and ideas from pretentiousness while at the same time it opens doors to new routes and angles.”

I wish I could tell Andreas how hard I laughed, but he appears to offer no contact info. on his site. Of course he is a tremendous painter, but his crazed sense of humor supercedes all! THANKS and I hope to see more.

Nice paintings. I still want to live forever though. What most people fear is not living forever, but the body damage that comes with older age and prevents them from doing what they want.

  35. Andy Pips on September 18, 2011 at 5:48 pm

Beyond compare. Original, subtle humour and excellent technique, wonderful.

  36. James on September 24, 2011 at 2:21 pm

LOL! Wonderful concept for a series of paintings! Love the portrait of him in the chair, that one says it all. Nicely done!
