And after the smoke clears...we are pleased as punch to announce our very first art show as a smashing success! Friday, June 6th at the one and only 111 Minna Gallery was a night full of drinks, fun, amazing people, and most importantly, amazing art! EK would like to thank every single person that supported us, and all the artists both in the show and who came to the show (we hope to be working with all of you soon enough).

AJ Fosik (REVISIT)

Art blog - AJ Fosik - Empty Kigndom
Always a privilege to post about an EK veteran! Believe me, our borderline-unhealthy infatuation with the incredible craftsmanship of AJ Fosik is perfectly justified. The impeccable detail and composition in his wooden sculptures,  has landed him on our site several times including two features (one on February 2010 and one on November 2011) an interview and a spot on EK's top 100 list consecutively on 2010 and 2011.

Reverse Engineered at Hellion Gallery

Reverse Engineered at Hellion Gallery
Reverse Engineered is currently showing at Hellion Gallery in Portland Oregon is a lineup of amazing artists, their names follow: AJ Fosik, Souther Salazar, JShea, Troy Coulterman, Michael Alm and Yoskay Yamamoto.  Put together with the intent of show casing a group of installation artists, the artists are as talented as they are different, from AJ Fosik's in your face emotional dynamism to Michael's naturalistic woodwork to JShea's oddly quieting meditations on the human condition.  If you're in Portland check it out!  Otherwise, take a look here:

EMPTY KINGDOM TOP 100 Artists of 2013

TOP 100 2013
[Photo by: Shelbie Dimond] 939 is the magic number for EK in 2013. 939 only has 4 factors: 1, 3, 313, 939...which doesn't really have any significant meaning relating to our TOP 100. AMD made a CPU called the Socket 939 back in June 2004...but we're not sponsored by them nor any other computer tech company to supply us with the machines that we need to run EK. The year 939 in Roman numerals is CMXXXIX...which doesn't mean crap since none of us use Roman numerals anymore. According to HistoryOrb.com, 4 major events took place in year 939 that were documented: July 8th (The Major Occultation, or Ghaybat el-Kubra of Muhammad al-Mahdi), August 6th (Battle at Simancas - Spain beats Moors), October 2nd (Battle at Andernach: King Otto & Hermann of Zwaben beat Eberhard of France & Giselbert of Lutherans), October 27th (Edmund I succeeds Athelstan as King of England)...which all has nothing to do with EK. Nonetheless, 939 is the exact number of posts we had to sift through for 2013 in order to bring to all of you art-fiends our fourth annual EMPTY KINGDOM TOP 100 Artists of 2013!

EK Interview: AJ Fosik

AJ FOSIK - EMPTY KINGDOM - ART BLOG - INTERVIEW
For those who are in New York, AJ Fosik is currently showing at Jonathan LeVine Gallery.  For those who are not, he's interview may help assuage your grief.  The work of AJ Fosik is a commentary on religion and the human condition, our vices, our virtues.  He himself is poignant, and intelligent and I highly suggest you read what he has to say:

AJ FOSIK the Wood Worker

Okay...I'll admit...since February 2010, some of us have been in love with AJ FOSIK in an almost unhealthy and unnatural way (Foski also made it to our EK TOP 100 of 2010). What does that kind of love mean? I'm not too sure, but I hope that Mr. Fosik doesn't pull a restraining order on us especially after opening his latest solo exhibit last week (running until the 19th of November) at the Jonathan Levine Gallery.

EMPTY KINGDOM TOP 100 Artists of 2010

art blog - EKTOP2010 - empty kingdom
(Photo by: berserker / Steve Skafte ) Within the hallowed halls of Empty Kingdom, our contributors tend to be very proud about the art that we curate. I wouldn't say it's a competition to put up the best artists, but when someone finds a really good artist first, we usually compliment each other with "Dammit!!!" or "Bastard who stole my post."
