Damn but do I love the photography of Julien Mauve. His range is immense, discussing everything from the future of our society and world in his ethereal and haunting abandoned cities, to the lost innocence we seem to have forgotten, to the darkness of the world and the futility of our attempts to drive that darkness away. Check out his interview:

Selina Mayer - Empty Kingdom - 2015
Selina Mayer is a UK based photographer who creates eerily intimate black and white images of both the human body and form as well as landscape. They are fashioned in the style of the old photographic masters (think Avedon, Penn, Weston), focusing primarily on the figure; the curves, crevices, shadows, and marks of all humans. Her images capture the delicate balance between sexy and vulnerable. selinamayer.com

Art Blog - Ben Thomas - Empty Kingdom
Ben Thomas is a photographer based out of Melbourne, Australia. He travels the world creating dizzying images of city and landscapes. His technique, called tilt-shift photography, utilizes the camera in such a way that within one click Thomas is able to transform otherwise sprawling (hard to capture in one shot) urban-scapes into small toy-like places. He  recently published a book called Tiny Tokyo: The Big City Made Mini. ENJOY!

Art Blog - Alexander Gronsky - Empty Kingdom
Alexander Gronsky explores the fine line between the urban and rural. Working in Eastern Europe and Russia, he documents what appears to be crumbling infrastructures, seemingly desolate and abandoned, though peaking lights and small bodies indicate otherwise. Unkept suburbs with graffiti and litter are strewn with people seeking leisure and relief in wooded patches and corners of beaches with looming industrial structures and cityscapes not far behind. His composition and color palette are refined and lend to the unusual serenity these images evoke. Urban decay is real.

Robert is originally from Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Shana is from Tulsa, Oklahoma. They now both live and work out of Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Their work narrows in on the relationship between Humans and the Environment which surrounds them. Pillaged landscapes scarred by human excess are portrayed in ParkeHarrisons photogravure, collaged and printed works. The realisticy unreal photographs are brilliant interpretations of how human behavior has a direct effect on the environment.

EMPTY KINGDOM TOP 100 Artists of 2013

January 31, 2014

TOP 100 2013
[Photo by: Shelbie Dimond] 939 is the magic number for EK in 2013. 939 only has 4 factors: 1, 3, 313, 939...which doesn't really have any significant meaning relating to our TOP 100. AMD made a CPU called the Socket 939 back in June 2004...but we're not sponsored by them nor any other computer tech company to supply us with the machines that we need to run EK. The year 939 in Roman numerals is CMXXXIX...which doesn't mean crap since none of us use Roman numerals anymore. According to HistoryOrb.com, 4 major events took place in year 939 that were documented: July 8th (The Major Occultation, or Ghaybat el-Kubra of Muhammad al-Mahdi), August 6th (Battle at Simancas - Spain beats Moors), October 2nd (Battle at Andernach: King Otto & Hermann of Zwaben beat Eberhard of France & Giselbert of Lutherans), October 27th (Edmund I succeeds Athelstan as King of England)...which all has nothing to do with EK. Nonetheless, 939 is the exact number of posts we had to sift through for 2013 in order to bring to all of you art-fiends our fourth annual EMPTY KINGDOM TOP 100 Artists of 2013!
